Culmore Primary School is a controlled school, owned by The Honourable The Irish Society and maintained by the Western Education and Library Board. It admits boys and girls aged 4 to 11, of mixed denomination. It is a picturesque, rural school, built of stone and set in its own grounds, overlooking the River Foyle. Classes are small with an average of 20 pupils in each classroom so that each child receives individual attention in a friendly, caring atmosphere.  

About Our School

The main building consists of two classrooms, toilets, cloakroom area, an office and kitchen. There is a hall which is used for school meals, physical education, music, assemblies, concerts and other school functions. Two large new mobile classrooms are situated on the grass area. An excellent library, computer suite and staffroom are located on the ground floor of the school house. We have a tarmac playground, which is lined for games, as well as a grass area with a new outdoor learning area. Classrooms have new PCs. Laptops and other specialist equipment are available for pupils with special educational needs. All four classrooms are equipped with interactive whiteboards.  
Parents, teachers and friends hold various fund-raising activities throughout the year. Money raised is used to buy equipment and improve facilities. In the past, the school fund has helped pay for many projects including the purchase of equipment for P.E. and the KS1 outdoor learning area, musical instruments, computers, computer printers, light and sound systems, DVD players, digital cameras, supplementary reading schemes and maths textbooks. It has also contributed to the building up of our excellent library. Parents help the teachers by listening to reading groups, accompanying school trips, making costumes, etc. It is important for children to see this teamwork. These fund-raising ventures help us to maintain an excellent spirit of co- operation among parents, teachers and Board of Governors. All parents helping with pupils must have passed a Criminal Check.
